Recovery of Our Beloved Danny Otero

Donation protected

This gofundme page is dedicated to a father, husband, son, and brother, named Danny Otero.

In November 2017, Danny Otero was diagnosed with two brain tumors. He did not want to alarm his friends, but his family knew. In February 2018, he underwent brain surgery to determine the type of tumors he had. The surgery results verified  his tumors were benign. He started his first rounds of treatment (IV treatments and chemotherapy pills ) from March 2018 until July 2020. He also did a month of radiation in mid-2019. All the treatments, specifically the radiation, appeared to  have shrunk his tumors; however, there has been a change during these last 30 days. His symptoms that he and his loved ones have feared, is now a reality. In early August, the results of his latest MRI confirmed that his tumors have progressed. He is now living with brain cancer, also known as grade 3 diffuse astrocytoma (malignant).

On August 13th, he had undergone a procedure called "Gamma Knife radiosurgery". Although the surgery went well, he had one of the most uncommon side-effects: seizures. He had over 10 seizures within the span of 72 hours, which has paralyzed parts of his body including his mouth, right-side of his face, and his right-side of his body. Due to these side effects, he has been admitted into the hospital twice in one weekend.

This has caused him to not be able to return to work or be a Karate instructor. He is heartbroken.

For those who DO NOT know Danny:

Danny Otero graduated from the University of Miami with a Bachelor degree in Elementary Education and Psychology. Full of life, he loves to dance, watch action movies, exercise, landscape, loves Italian food, and he is devoted to helping everyone he meets. He is a loving father of two beautiful teens, an amazing and supporting husband, a loving son, and an awesome, funny brother! He is truly an overall hard-working provider.

Danny Otero has been a teacher for the Miami-Dade County Public Schools for 18 years. He's been a Language Arts teacher helping students of Calusa for almost two decades, where he has inspired countless children, while ensuring that "no child is left behind". He goes above and beyond in making sure that each child gets the utmost individualized instruction. He is persistent with his students, and at the end of the day, it shows in the students writing, comprehension, and test scores. He has achieved multiple teacher recognition awards, including "Teacher of the Year" award.

Danny Otero is also a 3rd degree black belt in Tae-kwon-do. He has been a karate teacher at the American Karate Institute for several years, where he has taught the art of Karate to thousands of children, teens and adults. He is very well-known and respected as an instructor/teacher. Over the years, he has won multiple awards and trophies, went to the Jr. Olympics, and competed in the 2013 NAGA tournament and took home 1st place. Early on, despite his diagnosis of the benign brain tumors, he continued his passion for challenging others to achieve their goals in Karate.

His family is asking for prayers, positive thoughts, and support in anyway they can receive it. Due to the inability for Danny to work, and now only relying on one salary, it is crucial to support them monetarily so his family can concentrate on his well-being and not add unnecessary financial stress to their lives. They are already taking in costs to pay for physical, occupational, and speech therapy, as well as hospital and treatment expenses.  We are asking for your love, prayers, and support. Please look into your hearts and minds and give as much as you can to help this beautiful family through these trying times.

Thank you in advance for your support, prayers, and love that you can shine on this family.
