Hi there!
My name is Shih-wei Wu, and I am a multi-instrumentalist, a performer, a queer-identified human and a first generation Angeleno immigrant artist. My music has always been about the mixing and melding of cultures, showcasing the magical qualities musical fusion. I say magical because music can weave together influences, genres and cultures in completely new ways, giving musicians like me the opportunity to express ourselves fully without compromise. In that spirit I started my first band - Red Eye 2 Tokyo - to bring West Coast Jazz together with traditional Japanese folk music in a raw and energetic synergy. Our newest album, Friends I Have Just Met will take you on a journey that crosses borders and cultures. From riding a bullet train into Tokyo then sweating it out in a caravan crossing the Gobi desert - RE2T takes you there. Hurry down the hustling musical streets of Los Angeles to the strains of the Tsugaru Shamisen and Yokobue to a dark Jazz club for the riotous last set. Red Eye 2 Tokyo is a musical journey where you can leave your passport at home.
I am launching this campaign to bring Red Eye 2 Tokyo to a national and international audience - and co-create the next phase of our musical journey. The recording and editing of this album was entirely self-funded - and it took my over 2 years just to garner enough funds to record and mix the album!! We are now finally launching it at the first-ever release party at Angry Horse Brewing Company in November of 2019 - so this long-overdue recording will finally be available to the public.
But we have a long way to go! As a self-funded creation, we are seeking support for the next phase: bringing Red Eye 2 Tokyo and "Friends I Have Just Met" to a global audience. From the launch party to our social media campaigns, artwork, web hosting, merchandise and promotional travel - launching global music on the world stage costs money. More than that, we want to keep growing our music and our audience by start recording the next album.
