Help Red Fire Farm Recover from Barn & Store Fire

Donation protected
We lost our beautiful barn and farm store to a fire on Saturday February 17th. This building was home to our farm share members CSA pickups since the beginning, our Pick Your Own, our year round farm store, lots of equipment, and big farm parties, tastings and events for the community.

We are so grateful that no one was injured in the fire. All our staff and farmhouse residents are ok. The help from Granby Fire and Police, Belchertown Fire, South Hadley, Hadley, Amherst, Shutesbury, and more fire departments saved our farmhouse, storage barns and greenhouses from the fire. It took hours to put it out and so much work. Thank you to each of the first responders.

The barn was a beautiful piece of Granby’s agricultural history, built at the end of the chestnut era with amazing beams, irreplaceable. I know this barn is a loss for more than just our family and crew. It would warm our hearts to hear stories from you guys of what you remember about being there.

We are still figuring out what to do and how to move forward, but we know we will need a home for our CSA farm share pickups, our store, farm supplies and our tractors. We will be aiming to rebuild something in time for the spring plant and strawberry season.

Meanwhile we will be unable to be open for the farm store in Granby for the rest of the winter. But we will continue to sell produce at the winter farmers markets, and we will figure out a way to continue winter and spring and summer CSA distributions in Granby using one of the surviving greenhouses or other out outbuildings. All other CSA locations are good to go. Fortunately this winter most of our stored produce is at our other (Montague) farm location and our greens greenhouses survived. Now is a good time to sign up for the Summer CSA and visit us at winter markets to support. And we plan to grow lots of organic food this year!

We could use any help you can give towards the rebuilding efforts. We hope to make something beautiful here again. No gift is too small and no gift is too big. Thank you so much for supporting our farm and all the ways you are part of our community.

It’s been a devastating loss. But the kindness and outreach from everyone is helping us so much.
