Dear Redeemer Friends and family members of our recently lost loved one, Michael Kevin Fay. After much discussion amongst Mike/Myke's family and I and some of you, we decided to try to gather this special group outside of public sight to honor Mike and his family. I am hoping that as a group we can provide Mike and his family with a gift that will stay with his family forever as opposed to flowers or a card. Now I'll explain the nature of this gift.
As I am sure most, if not all of you are aware, Mike passed away suddenly on Jan 2nd. Many have asked how/why he died so suddenly, and the short answer is that no one can be sure. The majority of my career has been in Pathology so I am trying to help get answers for the family. Due to COVID regulations, deaths at home in L.A. County in people with certain pre-existing conditions, especially if they previously had COVID can be given a cause of death on a death certificate based on those factors. This is completely unprecedented and unfortunate for his loved ones because it leaves them a life of unanswered questions. Getting them some answers can go a long way in giving his family peace and closure, as well as possible genetic information for his children's family history. Mike's family would have to pay out of pocket for an autopsy because he didn't die in a hospital and the Coroner's Office is not currently doing autopsies of this nature. There is already a GoFundMe page set up on Mike's FB page to help with the kids' college tuition and expenses. We are doing this in a closed and private group very specifically to give them the privacy and discretion they need for this. I am currently working with pathologists in North Carolina(where I now live) to find a private autopsy service in L.A. that can do this for us. The price of an autopsy can range from $3500-$5000 depending on the tests that they deem necessary as well as things like transport.
We wanted to get this message out to you all as soon as I could because we have found a place to do the autopsy and turn around in a short time (which is hard with the current COVID environment) but we need to raise the money for it before it can begin. We could not think of a better way to honor our dear friend Mike by giving his family this gift. If you are on Facebook, let us know and we can invite you to the private group working on this.
