Founder's Inspiration:
In November 2021, Nana Pokua Appafram settled in Peduase, Ghana, in a unique red house surrounded by green gardens overlooking Accra. Observing local children shouldering adult responsibilities due to limited space for childhood activities, she recognized the need for change.
A Different Reality:Local children were missing out on education, often dismissed from school due to unpaid fees. Many children assumed roles beyond their years, fetching water, farming, and managing livestock.
Birth of RHSRC:Nana Pokua's vision materialized as the Red House Sunday Reading Club (RHSRC). Created to provide a few precious hours on Sundays for children to reclaim their childhood, interact, complete homework, and explore the world of books.
First Steps:In its inaugural year of 2022, RHSRC welcomed three pioneering children - Henry, Annabel, and Grace. By 2023, word of mouth transformed RHSRC's impact, gathering fifteen local children. The club became a sanctuary for learning, fostering camaraderie and exploration.
Personal Sacrifice: Nana Pokua continues to dedicate herself to RHSRC. Her motivation? The immeasurable joy the children bring each Sunday and the opportunity to transform families' lives through a shift in the importance placed on child education.
Key Message:"When the moon is shining the cripple becomes hungry for a walk" - Chinua Achebe. Just as favorable conditions inspire everyone to chase dreams, RHSRC aims to ignite ambitions in children through valued donations from sponsors and partners.
Impact:No more worrying about school fees. Help children focus on choosing colours for art, not cutlasses for farms.
Call to Action: Gift 30 GHC per day (approx. $2.50) to fund a year of primary education, including fees, transport, feeding, uniform, books and stationery.
Goal:Each partner to sponsor at least 1 child per family for 1 year, enabling multiple families to benefit from education
