Reed Davis had a motorcycle accident on October 6, 2019. He sustained multiple injuries e.g. broken leg and C2, front left temporal brain bleed and diffuse axonal brain injury. He required emergency surgery to remove his spleen and also sustained lacerations to both his liver and pancreas. He initially was taken to Holston Valley Hospital and then was transferred to Duke's Neuro ICU. As soon as he is stable enough, he will be moved to a rehabilitation hospital for extensive therapies. His mother Janet is staying with him. This family needs our help with prayers and financial assistance. Your prayers and financial assistance will be greatly appreciated! Janet will be able to access this account for whatever his needs are.

Subject: Shepard's Center
I will be meeting with the North Carolina representative for the Shepard’s Center today. She will assess Reed and see if they can come up with placement in their facility. The alternatives are Chicago or Philadelphia and I am not sure we can get him in either of those places or afford to transport. The local places just don’t measure up. They are not exclusive brain and spine injury rehabs. Please pray that the Shephard Center will have a bed for him and will accept him. He is starting to get a pressure sore.
I feel we have one shot at this to get our Reed back as much as possible. He needs the specialized rehab to recover to his full potential. I just don’t want to short-change him by not working with him appropriately. He has two brain injuries. The damage caused by the bleed and subsequent hematoma to his left temporal lobe and the diffuse axonal injury.
The speech therapist spent extensive time with him yesterday. He is not able to speak yet but she is working on trying to get his voice back through a speaking valve in his trach. He did figure out that he can mouth some words. He told me he was hot. I play a lot of guessing games with him to try to figure things out. It took me a half hour to figure out he wanted this wrist band moved. It was irritating him. But we figured it out and the nurse moved it and he was happier.
He got some ice chips during that session too. He choked a bit but they will start working on swallowing with him. All the muscles in his body are very deconditioned from laying in bed for a month. They are trying to move him to step-down but there are no beds (they finally got a bed and moved him to step-down). Thought we had one yesterday but someone from the ER took it. That would allow him to get more physical therapy until he is moved.
Again, thank you for praying! Please pass this email on to all those that will pray for Reed!!!
Love to all!
Janet
