Reed Family Medical Bills

The Reed Family has been hit hard with a devastating medical emergency. They are no stranger to hardships but this is unlike anything they’ve experienced before. Brandon went in on October 2 to have a routine hernia surgery. But the surgeon quickly realized the surgery was anything but routine. It wasn’t a hernia at all, in fact it was a ruptured appendix that was integrated into the mesh from an older hernia surgery. The surgeon removed the infected appendix but there was still worry about the mesh being infected. Brandon stayed one night at the hospital and went home the next day ready to get going on the road to recovery. On October 5, Brandon was experiencing such severe abdominal pain that a visit to the ER was the only solution. After many tests, including a CT scan, doctors discovered his abdomen was full of fluid. He was placed in the ICU for two days and a drain was placed to try to relieve the fluid. The drain was removed on October 18. Just 5 days later, on October 23, he was back in the ER. The fluid was now considered infectious. The surgery to remove the infected mesh is very complicated and extremely dangerous with an active infection in the area. So the plan of action is to eradicate the infection which could take several months.  Brandon may not be able to go back to work for at least 6 months and Maria is working hard to work as many hours as possible at her job. They need all the help they can get to provide for their three boys. They need the help of everyone around to help keep them afloat while Brandon’s body takes the time it needs to heal.
