Re-Establishing our farm after crisis

Donation protected
January 10th we found out we had a potential connection to cases of Salmonella illness in our community.

Biosecurity Queensland and Safe Food Queensland conducted an assessment of the farm and its procedures, and undertook environmental sampling of every chicken coop and the egg packing areas. BQ stated that the farm did not have any visible bird health issues and this is supported by our data showing there has not been any elevated mortality. We hold an accreditation with SFQ, which regularly conduct assessments of our operations. It has provided a report from its recent assessment that stated: "Overall, the business showed a strong awareness of, commitment to and provisions for both food safety and farm biosecurity.

The health and well-being of our supporters and our community is paramount and really all that matters to us. We recalled our eggs and started working through how this could have gotten to us.

Now, We have no chickens left, we are following best practice for scrapping ALL of our equipment (utes egg machine chicken trailers the whole lot) for an illness we can’t even see, and still have no answers as to how it arrived.

We are working towards securing another property that we can start from experience on.
THIS GO FUND ME WILL NOT BE USED FOR PROPERTY PURCHASE. Any assistance will be put towards new units and new equipment to begin again.

It’s not going to be quick but we are working towards being fully operational again in 2023.

As mentioned on our social media, our kids lives have been thrown into upheaval, but we are holding each other through the waves and staying as close as we possibly can to each other. At this point moving offsite is what is best for our children who are watching everything they love be destroyed. The trauma that this has put on all of us will be long lasting and something we will be working on for years to come. We are doing our best to continue to look forward and rebuild our business and our lives.

Below is a breakdown of the sorts of costs we are looking at to rebuild.

$10,000 permits and licences
$250,000 farm equip (tractor slasher utes)
$80,000 egg packing machine
$50,000 fencing
$200,000 birds
$85,000 x6 units
$25,000 cold room

Total approximately $1,000,000 in new equipment.
