Rees Theatre Immediate Needs Fund

Tax deductible

This past January, after 8 years of sitting vacant, a transfer of ownership was made possible to the Wythougan Valley Preservation Group. The future of The REES now lies in the hands of everyone who has ever called Plymouth and Marshall County their home.

The REES Project Committee consists of sometimes… ‘the dirty dozen’. People just like you and me who have jobs and families, but also a vision and a desire for more.

Our mission is to provide a catalyst for the promotion of artistic, educational and cultural events in the region as well as offer a venue to celebrate life and community milestones.

We were aware of SOME challenges that we faced moving forward from the 2013 Keller Engineering report and in April many of you saw firsthand the challenges that would be faced to restore the finishes and details trapped in their memories.

June came and the building reminded us that sometimes the unknown lurks when a section of the ceiling collapsed on to the auditorium floor.  We chalked it up to Divine intervention that it occurred when no one was present but it reminded us that no surface or structure can be overlooked.

Our plan has always been to begin with a new roof access we will refer to as the ‘shanty’ and roofing membrane to ensure a dry venue. Both roofing contractors to date have pointed to a ‘bulge’ in the masonry at the parapet wall on the south side that would surely give way during their installation work, so this repair, along with the ceiling, must become a priority.

We have a long road ahead, but with your help we can address these immediate needs and in the Spring focus on a capital campaign that will address the major renovations inside.
