Reforestation Project on Rio Naranjo in Costa Rica

Donation protected
We are a collective of humans concerned with the welfare of the Rio Naranjo in Costa Rica. This very special river empties into the beautiful Manuel Antonio National Park. The origins of the Naranjo River Biological Corridor began in 2001, when it was created by the Alliance to Regenerate the Habitat of the Manuel Antonio National Park along the Naranjo River Basin. It belongs to the National Network of Corridors and the Mesoamerican Network of Corridors. The corridor comprises an area of approximately 55,350 acres, encompassing a forest cover of 45% of primarily primary and secondary forests. In 2019, the government of Costa Rica passed Law 9683, officially protecting the Rio Naranjo and the Manuel Antonio National Park outside of Quepos, Costa Rica.

Unfortunately, there is a mining concession that remains in place despite the protection law, and in an effort to counter the destruction to the river, the huge amount of sediment that is endangering the coral in the national park, and the cutting down of trees alongside the river, we are partnering with our friends at Kids Saving the Rainforest to give back and help conserve the biological corridor through a reforestation project.

The fundraising effort will enable us to support the children who are getting involved in protecting their environment. The funds raised will support the kids with:

  • Planting the trees
  • Maintaining the land, daily monitoring of the area, and watering the trees
  • Supplying the carts and containers to water the trees
  • A small greenhouse structure near the river
  • A small storage shed/bodega to store tools and supplies out at the river
  • Bringing biological experts from San Jose to help the children learn about the river ecology and supporting the delicate balance of the flora and fauna in the area.

We are excited to kick off this effort! Please support us and the kids in giving back!

Pura vida,
