Reforesting a beautiful valley in Portugal

For around 2 euros per tree, I will plant 11.000 trees. Let me break it down for you:

This year, I am reforesting a 5-hectare land with native trees and a food forest. Next year the area becomes way larger when the local community starts reforesting their common grounds.

Why reforestry?

Reforestry helps to protect the valley against wildfires and drought. It can be the first valley to be reclaimed for nature and act as an example of how reforestry without common wood production trees can be viable. It would be a great step in fighting climate change if we learn how nature can grow and thrive in its natural state while providing more than enough for a living.

My input

I provide the land and got 10.000 trees sponsored by Gone West. I need help with the other expenses, mainly tools and food, food forest trees and shrubs.

Where does the money go?

Waterboxx

After the fires of 2017, much of the topsoil is washed down by the rains. I use an invention that allows trees to grow in these challenging conditions. The Groasis Waterboxx gives a chance to speed up recovery by at least ten years. They will be used repeatedly during the planting of the whole valley. On neighboring plots where trees were planted during last winter, no tree survived this hot summer. The trees need the extra water.

Shredding

I need to hire a shredder to reduce the number of invasive trees that empty the soil of water and nutrients. Shredding the trees provides woodchips that can be used as compost while protecting the earth from drying out. Burning them would be easier, but a waste of nutrients and producing a lot more toxic compounds.

Shovels

Some planting equipment I need to buy, cause they are not available to borrow for such a big project.

Food

Lastly, planting the trees will take 500-800 hours. That is up to 20 weeks of working. During planting I cannot earn money with graphic design, so help me buy my food and feed the volunteers so we can keep going.
