REFUGE - A Sculpture Project
Santa Fe, New Mexico artist, L.C. Shank is now is phase two of creating REFUGE—an 8'x5' sculpture of the Statue Liberty's head, with obvious signs of distress. Pieces of her crown have fallen apart and a large crack appears across her forehead. Looking through the crack one will see a migrant child curled up, asleep in the bottom of the skull of America’s iconic symbol of hope and new beginnings—taking refuge.
The artist's goal is for REFUGE to be cast in bronze, and serve as a beacon to raise awareness about our current inhumane immigration policies and restore hope for the millions of migrants and refugees seeking a better life in America. Once funded, L.C. has offered to donate the bronze sculpture, as a permanent installation to represent the sanctuary cities of Santa Fe and Albuquerque, New Mexico.
This is an unfunded passion project, and as a working artist L.C. cannot do this alone. If you are inspired by this work, please show your support by donating.
**Your donation to REFUGE is tax-deductible thanks to our fiscal sponsorship through the Santa Fe Art Institute.**
Donors can donate here on the Go Fund Me site, or by addressing a check to Santa Fe Art Institute, and write "REFUGE" or "LC SHANK" in the memo line.
