Refugee Community Connection Bike Locks & Helmets

Myself and other volunteers for Refugee Community Connection in Chicago have repaired and distributed many dozens of donated bikes directly to newly-arrived refugees, at first mainly from Afghanistan and lately from Central and South America. We have also coordinated the distribution of dozens more bikes sourced from local organizations such as the Recyclery in Rogers Park, and Working Bikes in Pilsen.

With each bike distributed, we must make sure that a reliable lock and helmet are given away with it. By purchasing in bulk through distributors, we will be able to source these items at the following prices including tax and shipping:

Adult adjustable helmets (Retrospec): ~$12.50

Kids adjustable helmets (Retrospec): ~$13.00

U-lock for adult bikes (Rockymounts or Retrospec): ~$16.50

Cable lock for kids bikes (Rockymounts): $6.50

All funding received will be spent on these items, which will be provided to families requesting bicycles here in Chicago.

If this fundraiser is successful, we can also purchase additional items to provide for those requesting them, such as rechargable lights (~$10/set) and flat repair kits (~$11 for tire levers, patches, and pump).
