Refugee & Migrant Swimming Project
Donation protected
Hello,
We are a group of ANU students and young professionals partnering with Royal Life Saving Australia to implement a not-for-profit initiative to teach water safety and swimming skills to Canberra’s growing refugee and migrant population. We create a safe environment to teach lessons in a culturally sensitive and trauma informed manner.
Between 2008-2018, over 800 people of refugee and migrant backgrounds drowned in Australia. Tragically, one of our close friends, who was of a refugee background passed away in 2020 from drowning, inspiring us to start this much-needed initiative. Before the Refugee & Migrant Swimming Project, Canberra was the only major Australian city currently without a specialist swimming program for refugees and migrants.
To continue this program off the ground, we need your support! By donating to this project, you will be helping to save lives by contributing to key operational costs, such as pool and instructor hire, and equipment. The more money we can raise, the more refugees and migrants we can provide lessons for. We greatly appreciate your generosity!
Thanks from the Refugee & Migrant Swimming Project team.
