Coordinator for Volunteer Educators of Refugees
Tax deductible
REAL International (Refugee Education and Learning), a 501c3 charitable nonprofit organization, recruits and sends volunteer educators to teach traumatized refugee youth, women, and other displaced people in Lesvos, Greece.
Since 2016 our 130+ volunteers have been teaching at several learning centers on the island of Lesvos, Greece. In Spring 2019, REAL was able to fund an on-the-ground volunteer coordinator thanks to the generous donations of friends, family, and other compassionate individuals.
As the number of refugees grows and the likelihood of settling in any European country dwindles, many of our students are stuck on Lesvos for extended periods of time. Staying engaged in learning is their lifeline, especially for young people. We are grateful for a growing number of educators who are stepping up to teach on Lesvos.
Our volunteer coordinator ensures volunteers are able to do the best job possible by orienting them upon arrival, guaranteeing the curriculum reflects best practices in teaching in an emergency situation, and rekindling the students’ sense of hope through consistent interaction with compassionate teachers.
For the past six months we have funded a former REAL volunteer and experienced ESL teacher to do that job and she has been extraordinarily effective. We now have another remarkable former REAL volunteer with similar experience who is willing to step into that role but we need to raise money to support her position.
To continue our proven success in educating refugee children and adults in Lesvos, we ask for your support to sustain this proven, mission-perfect educator's role as Volunteer Coordinator. Our students are smart, eager to learn, and resilient. They deserve the best possible education program and our coordinator is the loadstar for that goal.
Our success depends on people just like you. Please consider donating to this critical phase of our work, and visit our website: https://refugeeeducationandlearning.org/
Thank you.
