Refurbish Campama School facilities in Banjul, The Gambia
- In November, my wife and I had the privilege of visiting The Gambia for a week, during which we spent some time at Campama Lower Basic School in the capital, Banjul. The 700+ children we met were energetic, cheerful, and full of potential. However, we were deeply moved by the lack of basic facilities at the school—things many children in the UK take for granted, such as working toilets. Determined to make a difference, Jane and I have joined the board of a local charity, the Sunshine with Smiles Trust in Bournemouth, which has been supporting communities in The Gambia for years. Together with a small group of colleagues, including Scott and Harry Olliver from Lotts of Developments Ltd are heading back to The Gambia in late March to undertake some much-needed renovations at the school.
Our Plan:
• Repair and unblock all 7 broken toilets (boys’ and girls’ sides).
• Unblock and re-build surface water drains to prevent flooding in classrooms and walkways during the rainy season.
• Refurbish two nursery classrooms, including fitting lights, fans, and repairing uneven floors.
• Fix two broken staff toilets.
We’re funding our own travel and accommodation, so 100% of the funds we raise will go directly toward purchasing the necessary materials for construction, plumbing, and electrical work.
Any donation, big or small, will have a lasting impact on the lives and education of these wonderful children.
Your generosity will help us create a safer, healthier, and more inspiring learning environment for the children of Campama Lower Basic School.
