Regalitos for Immigrant Children 2019
Donation protected
The warmth and generosity of people like you made our 2018 Regalitos so successful that we're making it an annual holiday event.
Last year, we raised enough funds to bring over-the-moon joy to 184 newcomer pre-K to 5th grade students. We bought toys from their wish-list, a jacket, a pair of shoes, and a Target card for their parents. Volunteers bought, wrapped, and delivered the gifts with "Santa" and we hosted their holiday party. (To see our 2018 GFM page, go to https://www.gofundme.com/f/Regalitos-Immigrant-ChildrenSF)
You should have seen the happiness in the parent's faces as their witnessed their children screaming with joy! We volunteers were moved to tears seeing how deeply your generosity touched the children, their parents, their teachers, and the staff of the Mission Education Center.
Get your friends, family, coworkers to sponsor a classroom for $2,000! We have ten classrooms this year.
Or give whatever you can toward the $100 it will cost to deliver the following to each child:
$20 toy from each child's wish-list
$20 pair of shoes
$25 warm jacket
$25 Target Gift Card for their parents
$10 school holiday party contribution
We start this year with 157 children and expect to grow to 200. Families torn apart at the border who have been lucky enough to be reunited are being forced to relocate to cities not necessarily of their choice. Some of these families have been displaced to San Francisco; they are new, without support, not-yet connected to resources, have no jobs, are doubled-up in single rooms and arrive seriously traumatized.
Their younger children are enrolled in San Francisco’s Unified School District’s Mission Education Center, a K-5 elementary school for newly-arrived Spanish-speaking immigrant students. This transitional program helps the newcomer students achieve the necessary skills and confidence to succeed in regular schools to which they will transfer at the end of one year.
We expect 200 children will fill the 10 classrooms this year.
Thank you so much for your generosity!
Just to let you know how the money will move from GoFundMe to the children and their families: Your donation will be made to me (Maria X Martinez) on this GoFundMe campaign, and will be deposited into my checking account. I will send these funds to our fiscal sponsor, Mission Language Vocational School, to deposit in their account to pay expenses against receipts the team submits.
Any amount is appreciated. For those of you able to donate $100 or more, Tracy will work with Mission Language Vocational School in San Francisco to get you a tax-deductible receipt.
We will have two VOLUNTEER DAYS (both held at MEC).
1. Saturday December 14th - GIFT WRAPPING DAY
2. Friday, December 20th - HOLIDAY PARTY (where we give out the gifts and each grade does a holiday performance for the parents)
