Two years ago Regina Bailey was a healthy, happy young woman with a great job with JPMorgan Chase where she had been employed for 18 years. She seemed to have everything going for her including the love of her life, Amy, by her side. Then in a heartbeat, it all changed.
In November 2015, she fell ill with double pneumonia. She was in the hospital for a week, but her illness took a great toll on her immune system and the illness continued. Doctors' visits continued, but they couldn't determine a solid diagnosis. Regina was forced to go on short term disability while doctors tried to figure it out. Regina was well enough to finally return to work in February, 2016. However, that victory was short lived as Regina once again was hospitalized in May, 2016 with pneumonia. She was in the hospital several times over the summer with no diagnosis in sight.
Even though her performance appraisals over her 20 years at the company had always been stellar, Chase informed her that her FMLA & STD were depleted and she received her last check on October 31, 2016. When she filed for Long Term Disability (LTD), the insurance company denied it because the doctors had not determined a diagnosis. She also lost her insurance and is unable to pay her insurance under the Affordable Care Act.
Multiple doctor visits with Infectious Disease doctors and Rhumetologists have depleted both the finances and the spirit of this young woman. She appealed the denied LTD in December, but the insurance company continues to fight her appeal. No one from Chase is advocating for her.
Regina has finally been diagnosed with Undifferentiated Connective Tissue Disease, (an autoimmune disease) as well as Fibromyalgia and Fevers of Unknown Origin (a part of the autoimmune disease).
Her partner, Amy has steadfastly been by Regina's side providing her the strength Regina no longer possesses, but the bills continue to mount. Regina has been forced to go on food stamps. Helping Hands has helped pay small parts of the rent, but their assistance is limited and nearing depletion. Regina is now applying for Social Security Disability.
Regina desperately needs your help. Please give what you can. Thank you. Help spread the word.
