Regina's Health Battle: A Family in Need

Regina is going through hell right now. She has been sick for years with no real answers why. In August 2024, she was put on medical leave and was not able to work anymore. She has been to specialists and had all kinds of diagnostic testing done with no prevail on what is happening.

On March 22, she had a seizure in front of her grandchildren and was rushed to the hospital by ambulance. When family got to the hospital right after her, she was intubated and on life support. She spent 5 days intubated in ICU with septic shock. She has been septic 4 times in the last 5 years. This by far was the worst she’s been. The prognosis was not great. She did make it through and spent 16 days in the hospital. To someone who is already sick and weak, this was detrimental. Gina came home and was able to walk assisted with a walker and another person for very short distances. Home health was coming twice a week to do physical therapy at home to build her strength back.

On Wednesday, she tried to get up and fell repeatedly. She had a fever and was delirious, so she was brought back to the hospital. She was admitted again with pneumonia and more seizures. The doctors say she is not sick enough to be at the hospital but not well enough to be home. Her best option to get better is an inpatient rehab facility. Since she has been out of work for so long, her short-term disability has run out, and she was dropped from her employment insurance. She was able to get insurance through the marketplace, but the out-of-pocket must be met before she is able to be accepted to a facility.
