Rehabilitation - Ella & Dottie Green Sea Turtle
Donation protected
Ella was discovered at Shelly Beach in Manly looking extremely unwell and was rescued by Australian Seabird Rescue Central Coast. Ella has been examined and it has been discovered that she is suffering from a severe case of pneumonia and will be in care with Australian Seabird Rescue. Please help Australian Seabird Rescue rehab Ella back to health, so she can be released back to the wild. Green sea turtles are listed as an endangered species.
Australian Seabird Rescue Central Coast is a small grass roots rescue organisation specialising in the rescue and rehabilitation of seabirds and marine reptiles, including sea turtles and sea snakes. Australian Seabird Rescue does not receive any government funding and solely rely on donations from the public. Any donation no matter how big or small goes a long way.
Ella is expected to be in care for a number of weeks and your donation will help in the following way
- Vets bills & x-rays. These costs can add up fast
- Medication and antibiotics. Antibiotics to treat Ella cost over $200 per script
- Equipment
-Food supplies. It costs approx. $10 per day to feed a turtle of Ella’s size.
Dottie has been in care with Australian Seabird Rescue Central Coast since August 30 2019. Dottie was rescued from Wangi Wangi Lake Macquarie, suffering float syndrome caused by an infection due to a boat strike injury. Float syndrome is caused by a build-up of air and gas, preventing a turtle to descend, preventing the turtle from eating, resulting in a slow death due to starvation.
It has been a long road to rehab for Dottie, she had suffered damage to her carapace which takes many months to heal, as well as a collapsed lung. Her injury has healed nicely and the float is slowing going away. Unfortunately this takes time. It has been a long road to recovery for Dotti, and we hope to see her returned to her ocean home soon.
