Reiden's Medical Care
Donation protected
Hello my name is Brooke, I am Reiden's aunt. I am starting this page to help with Reid's current and future medical expenses and needs. Please read the story below to know Reid's journey so far...
On March 18th 2023, our sweet Reiden was admitted to children’s for hypoxia and septic pneumonia. After a couple hours in the ER, we were transferred up to the PICU, where his oxygen started dropping rapidly. A decision was made by medical professionals to intubate immediately and placed on a ventilator. We are uncertain how long he will be intubated and admitted here at children’s.
A couple days later, after blood cultures were drawn, swabs tested, and mucus plated, we discovered he would hit the trifecta of viruses: Rhinovirus, H influenza, and Parainfluenza 4. A week has gone by he has had “3”bronchoalveolar lavages to help keep his oxygen at least above a 94%. He’s still continuing to need the ventilator to breath for him. At this point the pulmonologist and intesivist are concerned because he isn’t progressing.
On March 27th after we had pushed the doctors, he got an MRI of the brain and spine. The findings weren’t what we had hoped for. Reid’s spinal cord has been compressed by his vertebrae on C1, C2, and C3 for awhile now and caused calcifications to form. With this he is having difficulty breathing, unable to walk, nerve pain, and various other issues. He will be getting surgery on April 5th to shave off a part of his skull to hopefully eleviate some of the pressure.
If his breathing doesn’t improve after his surgery, which the doctors aren’t very positive it will, he will then get a tracheostomy done and continue to be hooked up to a ventilator. He will be unable to speak for awhile after everything and will need a home health nurse 24/7. The doctors mentioned that he most likely will not be able to play sports in the future and that he will need to be retaught how to walk, talk, eat and do everyday activities from being comatose for so long.
Each day Reid receives antibiotics, pain medicine, sedation meds, chest X-ray, labs (CBC, Lytes, VBG, CRP, MG and a couple others at random), neb treatments x4 hours, and feedings. If everyone could say a prayer for Reid each night we would appreciate that greatly. If you feel the love to donate to help with medical costs and medical supplies (walker, orthotics, ventilator, medicines, and other breathing equipment) after discharge we would greatly appreciate all the help.
Much love,
Reid
