RELEASE HAMID TODAY!

*UPDATE 6/5/2018 - ICE has reduced the total bond amount to $25,000

NOT ONE MORE DAY!

Thank you all for your continued support for 17 year old Hamid, who has been in adult detention for 5 months. We still need your help.

We were notified this morning that ICE has granted an astonishing *$35,000 bond for Hamid’s release.  Hamid does not have immediate family in the country and ICE has made it extremely difficult to secure his freedom. We are calling our community to take action and help us raise the astronomical bond as soon as possible.

His parole was granted after months of calling on Senator Kamala Harris to advocate for his release. Over 70 organizations from around the country signed onto a letter calling on the Senator to take action. After speaking with Hamid from detention, the students from 415 Unidos for Freedom at June Jordan School for Equity, have circulated their own sign-on letter gathering signatures from over 40 high-schools also calling on Sen. Harris to act.

The lack of action from elected officials shows complicity and plays into Trump's anti-muslim rhetoric. Detention itself is already destructive to a person's well-being, and as a minor in an adult facility who only speaks Pashto, Hamid is particularly sensitive to its effects. In addition, ICE has refused to make dietary accommodations for Hamid, which is having a deleterious impact on his mental and physical health as he tries to observe Ramadan.

We greatly appreciate all of your support. Please share this fundraiser with your networks until Hamid is free and he does not have to spend another day in detention.
