Relief for the Nonnenmochers
In the early morning hours of October 23rd, Jess, Josh, Cora, and Josh’s parents awoke to a raging fire in the duplex next door that made its way over to their duplex and worst of all, claimed the lives of their friends.
The damage to their duplex was more focused on the other side and they were grateful to thefire department for all they did that morning to help. Initially, we thought that their belongings were spared and they were put into a different rental unit in the culdesac.
After many of the neighbors helped move many of their things, they decided that in light of the situation, it would be a good idea to get an electrician to look over the new place. It turns out that it is electrically not safe and they cannot stay there. So now they will have to find a new place to live, move out of two separate houses that are not fit to live in, and on top of it, it seems that they won’t be able to salvage all of their furniture due to smoke damage. Without renters insurance, the costs are mounting during this overwhelming time.
Having to get storage, dumpsters, new furniture, and a new place to rent pales in comparison to the pain and trauma they have experienced and the loss of loved ones those families have experienced—it is why Jess initially helped support crowdfunding for the other families and not hers, but they need our help now more than ever.
As the days have passed, Jess (in true fashion for those who know her) has been helping everyone try to pack, move, eat, and make sense of it all, while still grieving the loss of her friends. Jess does this all the time as a social worker for Dare County. She helps everyone in need, and now it is time to help she and her family get on their feet during this unimaginable time.
Please donate if you can and please share this so we can spread the word and get them the help they need. Jess, Josh, & Cora, we love you so much.
