Relief Fund for NY DJs Affected By COVID19 Crisis

Here’s what most of us probably know: DJs are an integral part of life in the Greater New York area. What would the five boroughs of NYC or The Hamptons be without our nightlife and what would nightlife be without the talented folks who work their asses off at crazy hours to provide the soundtrack to some of our most cherished New York memories?


Here’s what you may not know: The majority of DJs, like most gig workers in the economy, are living paycheck to paycheck, and hustle full-time to make their careers work - often without health insurance, contracts, or any other form of legal protection. Even when times are good, nightclubs can hire and fire DJs at will and their livelihoods are often precarious at best. 


Now, with the COVID-19 pandemic and ensuing closure of all nightclubs and bars, as well as the cancellation of large gatherings, every single DJ in this city is fully out of work. Their incomes have vanished overnight, the future of their industry is heavily in question, and most of them don’t know how they’re going to pay rent in a couple weeks. As of now, DJs cannot file for unemployment, are not eligible for small business loans, and have essentially no recourse to adapt their profession monetarily in our city’s current state of shutdown.


Here’s our ask: If you have ever enjoyed a night out in this city and have the means, please give a donation here, big or small, to support the people who make that possible and who are suffering immensely in this perilously uncertain moment for New York Nightlife.  The creators of this GoFundMe all work in nightlife, and our goal is to raise enough money to give a substantial chunk of cash to our peers, these integral members of our communities and pieces of everybody’s New York experience. Many are struggling to cover basic needs, and wonder if they'll have the financial stability to continue working in this industry once this is all over. 


This support will go towards helping them make it through this time so that when nightclubs do reopen for business, they can return to the work they love, and our city can once again have its soundtrack. Any amount helps!! All proceeds go directly to the folks who need it most, with priority going to those who have expressed the most dire need.
