Relief funds for Cooper Family
Donation protected
We are starting a GoFundMe for the Cooper family because of the recent tragedy that has struck.
As many of you know, this Christmas has been full of hardship as we come to the year anniversary of Dovie's death.
Dovie, whom was married to Gary and mother to Lil Coop, Leslie, Chris and DJ. For three years prior to her death she worked alongside Leslie at the Contemporary Arts Center as Gallery Security and was full of so much passion and love. She put her everything into raising her family despite the struggle to make ends meet and came into work with much enthusiasm and attention to detail. She quickly became well known and loved throughout the CAC for her great sense of humour and open mind and heart.
She touched so many, accepted everyone and gave her everything to make others smile.
Dovie was struck with a massive heart attack on December 16th, and after a week of fighting passed away on Christmas Eve with friends and family by her side. Her death left us all with a tremendous pain, and throughout the year our grief has been a struggle to work through.
We miss her every day.
Due to this and other amounts of stress, Gary has been fighting hard to raise Little Coop as a single father-with the help of Dovie's mother, Bobbie, whom continues to live at their home to be close to Little Coop.
We hoped to be together as a family as this Christmas came upon us to support one another as we work through the reality that Dovie has been gone a whole year already.
Even more tragedy has met us instead.
Sunday, December 18th, Gary suffered a major stroke and subsequent intracerebral hemorrhage due to extremely High Blood Pressure that will require many months of rehabilitation and treatment.
He has been in critical condition in the ICU after being transported via helicopter to UC from the emergency room.
The first week after his stroke has been overwhelming, as he has gone through a treatment in which TPA(a medicine that breaks up blood clots) was directly fed into the clot in his brain(thankfully this means the bleeding stopped and he developed a clot) and fluids drained from his head. Throughout this time, his blood pressure continues to be difficult to manage, he is fighting pneumonia and suffering fevers as well as labored breathing and weakness. He has yet to wake up, even after being taken off sedation, and cognitive and neurological responses (following commands) has been minimal to none.
The road to come is very open and we're unsure of how long it will take him to recover, as well as how well he will.
This stroke has effected us all very deeply, and has changed the lives of all of us very abruptly. We now have to work together with Gary's family-directly with us are brother Bobby and daughter Melissa, and they are working us to ensure that Grandma Bobbie, Gary, Little Coop and even their dog Blondie will be taken care of as Gary was the sole provider in their home.
This means a lot of planning, managing of Gary's assets and finances, and moving. Unfortunatley this also means they all will no longer be living together, which is going to be heart breaking for grandma.
We want to assure that this transition will be as painless as it can be for everyone, and we need so much help because this is overwhelming.
We ask any of you to be able to give if possible to help pay to ensure that Gary receives the best possible treatment, as well as to ensure that his son "Lil" Gary Cooper will also be able to be raised in a healthy environment with all of his needs being met.
We will be updating this GoFundMe with more information as soon as it comes, thank so much for helping us fight this fight.
