Relief Ops: Typhoon Rai-Odette Bohol Philippines

Last Thursday 16Dec21, a super typhoon hit the Philippines. Whilst on average we get around 20 storms and typhoons and a few earthquakes per year, this 15th typhoon to hit the country was the strongest one yet in decades, and heartrendingly wreaked havoc.

In total, the typhoon touched down NINE TIMES as it swept west across the country, toppling homes and power lines, uprooting trees and structures.  Bohol - where I’m from,  was badly hit as well, being the fourth island of the nine that the tropical storm made a touchdown on, and the island province with the most number of casualties.  Some inaccessible areas still remain cut off from help or communication at the very least.  

As of this writing the death toll is at 375;

515 are injured, 56 reported missing and around 67,000 left homeless.

Just days before Christmas.

No electricity, limited access to potable water, and no sturdy shelter or even roof above heads, these are just a few extra challenges my beloved Filos have to endure this Yuletide season.

Thank God fam’s safe back home, albeit still without electricity and with very limited supplies.  We remain one in sending love thoughts and prayers to all the victims.  And after some damage assessment and clearing, we are now concentrating on relief efforts for our neighbours and neighbouring towns, preparing Christmas packs for kids to somehow fill in for their traumas and help everyone slowly rebuild their homes, externally and internally, physically, emotionally and spiritually.

I hope it’s not a big ask to knock on your generous hearts to help us help our fellow Filos, in prayers and in kind (through the cash donations).   Any amount of prayers and donations will robustly help the families get essential stuff at least for the next 2 weeks or so and make their Christmases still merry and bright anyhow.
