"Chharito Ghar" Nepalquake Shelter

Donation protected

At Robotics Club in Central Campus of Institute of Enginering, Nepal, we have come up with a prototype of a prefabricated relief house which can be quickly assembled in the earthquake affected areas of Nepal. Considering the scarcity of local skilled manpower and resources ongoing rebuilding scheme will not be sufficient to provide temporary shelters before the monsoon. We propose to deploy weather resilient earthquake shelter named ‘Chharito Ghar’ (Chharito means quick-efficient, Ghar means home)  which can be produced on mass using the resources available with us. Employing the local manufacturing workshops we will be able to do it smoothly till all the affected areas are secure from the upcoming monsoon. The prototyped house named ‘Chharito Ghar’ can be an appropriate solution for the victims as a shelter in terms of cost, time, labour, material and transportation.

The material cost for a single unit of ‘Chharito Ghar’ is approximated about NRs. 25,000 (USD 245) which is listed in detail here.  The house parts can be fabricated individually in different mechanical workshops following a factory production line framework and then assembled at the site. Total manufacturing cost for a single unit of ‘Chharito Ghar’ is estimated around NRs. 35,000 (USD 345) including labor cost. The transportation cost depends on the location of the site and the manufacturing workshops. A single lorry can carry parts for fifteen or more houses. The installation can be carried out with four trained manpower in less than half an hour.

We are developing a strategic plan for the mass production so that thousands of such relief houses can be constructed at least for the most affected areas within a month before the start of monsoon kicks in. With this project we aim to provide temporary shelters to 6,000 houses within a month with a cash flow of about Rs.2,50,000,000 (USD 2,446,662). This seems to be effective option to provide relief to the quake victims. The project can run parallely to increase the scale and various individual projects can be handled in a national level.

Before we reach our ultimate goal to settle 6,000 houses, we need your support to get started. We need you to support for installation of approximately 20+ "Chharito Ghars" costing NRs 7,00,000 (USD 6,850) . We will reach out for more support towards reaching our 6000 houses target, but first help us do some initial work and get a jumpstart.

About me:

Hi all,

I am Bikram Adhikari born and raised in Nepal. I got my BE degree from Institute of Engineering, Pulchowk Campus in 2010 AD. After completion of my BE, I went to USA and Canada to pursue my further education in Agricultural Automation (Washington State University) and Computer Vision and Robotics (University of British Columbia). Upon completion of my program of study in Jan 2015, I returned to my home institution in Nepal to bring home the recent advances in robotics in the first world with #projectCoSys .  Due to the earthquake in Nepal, #projectCoSys is currrently at halt and we are actively working at Robotics Club, IOE to develop and deploy relief shelters for earthquake affected areas.

I am collecting this fund to support the #reliefRobotics project. The funds collected will be directly transferred to Robotics Club team at Institute of Engineering, Central Campus where we will use the fund to replicate our prototype and bring it to people in need.

My profile online can be found on LinkedIn.

I thank you for your support and trust in this initiative.

Sincerely,
