Help The Page Family Relocate After Hurricane Ian
Donation protected
My family was hit hard by Hurricane Ian. They had just uprooted their lives to make a fresh start and move to Florida at the end of last year. As renters, they are not afforded the luxury of the insurance company putting them up in a hotel while repairs are being made. Therefore they now have to find a new place to live. They just moved to Florida at the end of the year and are now being forced to again come up with first, last and deposit on a new place, not to mention the application fees. They have a mom who uses a wheelchair and is on oxygen 24/7. They also have a service dog. They have already spent thousands on a hotel with no end in sight. Please help get them back on their feet; it will be much appreciated.
A few words from Greg Page;
For those unaware, Hurricane IAN devastated the town of North Port in Florida, where we live. We not only took a direct hit from pretty much a cat5 storm, but when it made landfall, it stopped over our town. We had sustained winds of 155 mph with gusts up to 190mph for almost 8hrs straight! It also dumped 30 in of rain in that time. Luckily the family and I made a last min decision to leave and go inland at 2 am when we saw we were going to take a direct hit from a possible cat5 storm. We watched the storm destroy our area on YouTube safely from a hotel. After the storm moved on, we were informed that not only our neighborhood but our entire town was completely flooded.
We stayed in the hotel until this morning because we could not access our home. It took us some time today to maneuver flooded roads, but we could reach our house. It sucks to say it did take a hell of a beating. Besides still not having power or water, the roof was damaged, causing the ceilings to fall down in our bathrooms and kitchen. The combo of those leaks and the flood waters filled the house with about 6-8 inches of water. We had a brick wall at the front of our garage collapse, and our screen porch is now just a porch. Our camper was also damaged; it got pushed into a tree, placing a large hole in the side, and the braces were entirely bent. With all that said, it could have been worse. We're all safe, and most of our things didn't get completely ruined. That's better than a lot of people in our area. It sucks, but it could have been way worse. Our community is really pulling together and helping each other out. We'll bounce back, and things will get back to normal; it will take some time.
