Relocating to Manchester!

I am YM and am a historian and longtime LGBTQIA organizer from Chapel Hill, NC. This fall I will be starting a postgraduate history program at the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom. As you can imagine, attending university in Britain is the opportunity of a lifetime, a goal that I have dreamed about since childhood. After completing the essential relocation steps of being formally accepted to UofM and securing my student visa, I am now in the final stage where I actually have to pack up my old Chapel Hill apartment by the end of July, find a new home in Manchester, and book my plane ticket.

The most critical goal of this relocation fund is securing a Manchester apartment, since I will be moving to town right as there is massive demand for student housing. Finding accommodation that is close to UofM is highly competitive and I want to find a flat as soon as possible. Already having a home in Manchester when I arrive in in town mid-August will make my acclimation to British life that much easier.

In addition to a Manchester flat, these funds will also be used to purchase a one-way plane ticket, temporary lodging for two weeks after I vacate my current home July 31st, and basic expenses like food, utilities, and ground transportation.
