Relocation of CC and housing fund QBIPOC members

Donation protected
Over the last year and a half, Chaos Computer has grown into a home for a beautiful tangle of diverse and intersecting musical, artistic, and nightlife scenes. Predictably, however, our building is being demolished and we have to be out by July 4th, 2023. The final night of programming will be on July 1st, 2023.

This demolition creates two distinct needs: a new venue location and also housing for several trans and BIPOC members of the CC collective who currently live in the building.

Because of the housing crisis that pushes already vulnerable people into increasingly unstable and dangerous situations, financial hoops such as prohibitively high-security deposits, credit checks, and on-the-books income have now become actual barriers for our friends who are looking for a new home.

The funds raised here will go towards offsetting the high upfront costs of securing a new lease, and if we can’t find one perfect spot that can accommodate housing and a venue, then the money will go towards two deposits for two separate spaces.

Adonis Staten, a collective member also living at CC, will receive the donated funds directly into his savings account. From there, a portion of the funds will be deposited into the CC Open Collective page. Another portion will go directly to the four trans/QTBIPOC collective members who will be displaced by the closure of CC: Lucy York, Rico de la Fuente, Kwami Winfield, and Adonis Staten.

Our model has always been one of trust, transparency, and open books; it’s no secret that we have relied heavily on donated funds and now is no different. As we well know, places like the Computer are becoming increasingly rare in NYC’s desperately inflated cultural and real estate landscape. We believe it is a collective responsibility to keep these places from disappearing altogether. We also deeply believe in the abundant potential of community. At the very least, CC has been proof of just that.

There's no US without YALL! We all need a new venue, and our loved ones need a place they can call home.
If you believe in NYC DIY, if you believe in free rice, if you believe in the power of music, then now is the time to put those beliefs into action.

Much love,
CC
