Remebering Benjamin Jiang

Donation protected
I first started working with Benji in July, 2020. It wasn't much long after that, that we became friends, good friends. We bonded on a hike,  just outside of Houston, BC. called China Knows, late summer 2020. We had a fun day all getting to know each other (Benji, Fabio, Piero and myself), but it was also on that day, that I realized Benji's love for the outdoors. His enthusiasm for nature could not help but make you smile - he absolutely loved it and definitely cherished it more than most.

Benji appreciated the little things and always took the time to admire nature's beauty.  Every time I would see a beautiful sunrise or sunset at camp, I would point it out to Benji and he always took the time to look at it.. and really look at it, appreciating it's wonder and beauty, he gave it the attention it deserved. You could see the joy it brought to his face and I loved that about him.

He had a strong dis-like for "sugar-free" food. I had once sent him a link to a sugar consumption article that related sugar intake to dementia. He read it, we discussed it, and in an attempt to be more healthy, he did try to enjoy some of the sugar-free treats that the camp had to offer. However, it didn't take him long (less than a day?) to realize that sugar tastes much better!... He did what he enjoyed and he lived his life honestly. Another reason I admire him.

Benji was a man with a heart of gold, contagious positive energy and an extremely kind soul. We had a lot of fun and laughed, every day. Benji, Mahmud, Alan (and even Kevin sometimes) would chat about the stock market, the highs and lows and what to buy next. We would talk about religion, politics, what we got up to on our days off. We talked about everything - and at the end of the day we were all more enlightened, understanding and remained friends, even better friends.

There's a little log cabin on the way from Burn's Lake to Houston, about 15/20 minutes East of Houston on the right hand side, just off the highway and beside a little pond.. It is nothing notable, but Benji loved that little cabin. He would always point it out whenever we passed and he would say that it was 'his house'. If do you drive that way, please look for it and think of him.

Benji spoke very lovingly about his wife and daughter and their new fur-baby Kiko. Benji also really loved Christmas, so please hold and appreciate your loved ones a little more this holiday season. We love you Benjamin.

Rest in Paradise my friend - you are already missed <3
