Remember Me: An Annual Day of Remembrance

Donation protected

We are a group of women volunteering our time, and fundraising from the bottom of our broken and hopeful hearts, to ensure an important day, event and ceremony happens:

With the uncovering of graves at federally operated Residential Schools, Canada is finally awakening to the Indigenous story. That our children were stolen from their families, communities and culture, and forced to live in institutions that would “break the bond between parent and child” and “kill the Indian, save the man.” All as a horrific and aggressive assimilation tactic to gain (steal) more land from Indigenous people.

You are finally learning that many of our stolen babies never returned home.

You are learning that thousands were murdered.

You are learning there’s been an Indian War.

And you’re learning that when these schools started closing, Children’s Aid Societies took over. Our beloved youth and future generations, scooped and scooped.

Can you share space with us and honour those children? The little soldiers of an Indian War?

{Odds of dying for children in Residential Schools was 1 in 25. Odds of dying for Canadians serving in WWII was 1 in 26}

Can you share in a moment of silence, remembrance, respect and honour like we do our veterans?

We need your loving acknowledgment, compassionate support and unity for healing.

Remember Me: A National Day of Remembrance.

September 30th; Orange Shirt Day.

An inclusive, annual day of remembrance that will meaningfully honour those who have passed, the survivors, the families and communities that grieve the effects of the residential school systems and all Indian child apprehension programs.

It is a day to show unity in our efforts to bridge the gap between Canadians and Indigenous people; it is an opportunity to embrace diversity and promote equality. Above all, it will encourage dialog, active citizenship and social responsibility.

The day will include:

Parliament Hill:

9 am: Opening Ceremony
11 am: Moment of Silence
12 pm: Spirit Walk (calling on all Mother’s and Grandmother’s to lead us).

Confederation Park:

12-6pm: Presentations, Activities, Performance and Ceremony.

It is imperative that we teach the next 7 generations that we are all in this together.

"See each other the way the Moon sees the Sun; vastly different and equally important"

Despite the best efforts of fundraising by the Indigenous Arts Collective of Canada and Pass The Feather, we are still in need of raising funds.

We need approximately $5000 for A/V, stage, tents, chairs, sound equipment…

We need approximately $5000 for extra masks on site, hand sanitization stations, portapotties…

Every little bit helps…
