Remembering Anil George

Help us find a way forward for the family of Anil George.

Anil George was unique. He never turned down a friend and always volunteered to help in all the little ways. You need a ride? “Call me anytime” he would say. You can’t make it home? “No problem, I will swing by and pick up your son/daughter on my way.”

Anil helped in all those little ways that help all of us get thru our busy lives. He was one of those rare people you could rely on every time. Now he’s gone. In the blink of an eye he is no longer there and everyone who knew him and learned who he was feels this unbelievable sense of loss.

But the ones truly feeling this loss are his family. They relied on Anil so much more than anyone else. His wife Beena who devoted her life to take care of Anil and was at Anil’s side at soccer and basketball games and on neighborhood walks. Anil’s Mother who immediately after losing her husband was taken into Anil’s home without a second thought. His daughter Melanie whose intensity and determination resulted in her playing basketball and serving her country at West Point. His son Josh who is a smaller version of Anil and has the same sense of humor, quiet determination, and caring nature as his Dad. Oh.. and a dog who was taken in to fill whatever little gaps of Anil’s time he had left after taking care of his family and all of us.

Here’s the problem. We need to help finish what Anil started. We need your help to find a way to help keep this quietly amazing family together and on track until Melanie and Josh can kick in and take up where Anil left off. Please consider helping with a small donation to help fill the 3 year gap until Melanie graduates.

Think of your donations as a way to mirror the small kind selfless acts that Anil doled out daily to each member of his family and even to those, like me, who had no right to it. Small things add up.

The loss we feel is deep. It demands a response. We sure could use your help to honor a man who gave every ounce of his energy to everyone he brushed up against him in his way too short life.

Thank you for your consideration of this community effort. I know many of you never got the chance to meet this wonderful man. For those of you who missed that opportunity, the measure of Anil is summed up perfectly by this anonymous poem.

The Measure of a Man

by Anonymous

Not--"How did he die?" But--"How did he live?"

Not--"What did he gain?" But--"What did he give?"

These are the units to measure the worth

Of a man as a man, regardless of birth.

Not--"What was his station?" But--"Had he a heart?"

And--"How did he play his God-given part?

Was he ever ready with a word of good cheer,

To bring back a smile, to banish a tear?"

Not--"What was his church?" Nor--"What was his creed?"

But--"Had he befriended those really in need?"

Not--"What did the sketch in the newspaper say?"

But--"How many were sorry when he passed away?"

Rest peacefully Anil. We got this.
