Remembering Art Thurm: Help Fund UNF Initiatives

Donation protected
My name is Jason Pratt and I served on the UNF Alumni Association Board for over 6 years with Art Thurm, which is where we met. He was the most dedicated board member. The guy loved UNF, serving the community and making sure graduates always felt connected to the university. He smiled often, laughed a lot, and knew how to get things done. I made sure any committee I was on, Art was on it with me.

I have created this GoFundMe on behalf of his UNF alumni friends, which includes his fraternity brothers. This has been set up in Art’s honor. After covering the costs of Art’s Remembrance Ceremony , which takes place on July 27, 2024, donations will go to some of UNF’s greatest needs, as well as a contribution to the Ability Experience.

Art Robert Thurm, Jr., born on June 24, 1979, in Riverhead, New York, passed away at the age of 44 on June 14, 2024, in Jacksonville, FL. Art grew up between Upstate New York and Winter Haven, FL, where he graduated from Winter Haven High School.

During his college years at the University of North Florida, Art was a member of the Pi Kappa Omega fraternity. He graduated from the UNF Coggin College of Business and remained a dedicated board member of the UNF Alumni Association. Art was crowned UNF Homecoming King in 2000, a testament to his vibrant campus life and leadership.

Art was known for his responsible and organized nature, his love for planning, and his big heart. He always sought to be where the action was and cherished the company of his closest friends. He never said “no” to plans, believing that “no” leads to something boring. In addition to his obvious love for the UNF Ospreys, Art was a super fan of University of Florida sports, always cheering on the Gators with enthusiasm.

His favorite hangout spots included Brix, Ritz, Carrabba’s, and Ale House, where he surrounded himself with excellent people and created lasting memories.

Art is survived by his aunt and uncle, Gerald and Cindy Beyer, and his sister, Jessica Miklas.

A Remembrance Ceremony will be held on July 27, 2024, at the Bank of England Suite within the UNF Arena.

Art Robert Thurm, Jr. will be remembered for his warm spirit, love for life, and the countless memories he created with his friends and family.
