Honoring Christine's Generous Heart
Donation protected
This GoFundMe page is dedicated to our dear and cherished, Christine Scurlock. We write this with heavy hearts. Those who have had the fortune of crossing paths with her, whether it was for only a short time or a lifetime, we’re sure, would share the same sentiment. What a very generous hearted, empathetic and caring spirit she was, even if or when it was to her own detriment. She was loving and fearless when it came to sharing her vulnerability and kindness with others, despite how others treated her. Those of us who loved her and really knew her have seen this. We have only yet begun to try to imagine a world without her. If you are reading this, we know you must feel the same. To know her is to love her.
On Tuesday, December 17, over the phone, doctors shared in a very clinical way that she most likely wasn’t going to make it. Through thick layers of shock, we struggled to comprehend what we were hearing. They suggested we make all efforts to get to the hospital as soon as possible and invited us to reach out to close family and friends to do the same. In writing this now, it is hard to imagine this was less than 48 hours ago. So much has happened since and it feels as if we have already traveled a lifetime. Grief is a funny little thing.
It should come as no surprise that Christine is a registered organ donor. Of course she would be! Even in her parting this earth she has found a way to leave her mark, to continue to give and continue to help others, again to her own detriment. Yet, what a beautiful legacy she has chosen to leave behind!
The Live on NY, the non-profit organization is guiding us through the organ donation process. We are blessed with an extremely kind, caring and empathetic team. They have shared with us how seldom this happens in real life, despite what we may see on TV or even on Grey’s Anatomy, one of Chrissy’s absolute favs! They continue to say what a tremendous and selfless gift Christine is offering to help so many others. We just sit, in tears, silently nodding in agreement …if they only knew how true that really is; if we only had more time to share her life stories with them so they could understand what we know of her. We have already learned so much and are truly grateful for their care in patiently and respectfully walking us through this very difficult and dark time. She is still with us in body right now, however our time with her is quickly coming to an end.
We have been starting to plan her memorial services. A few months ago, after a time she was really struggling we had one of the most difficult conversations two people can have. We discussed what her wishes would be, if God forbid, something tragic happened. It was a long and painful conversation yet one that can now be reflected upon with gratitude. It is now providing us with a blueprint to follow when planning her memorial services. Although her wishes were thoughtful and simple the costs may be higher than we have available.
We wanted to extend an invitation to those of you who love her too, big or small or nothing at all. Regardless of what we raise our goal is to be able honor her final wishes and continue her legacy.
