Remembering Cornelia “Pinky” Moore Modeste
Cornelia "Pinky" Moore Modeste, was a native of Tallahassee, Florida and a resident for the last 21 years of Albany, Georgia.
After a successful career of 20 years as a department manager at Gayfers Department Store in Tallahassee, she left retail and entered the field of governmental services in the area of Minority, Women and Disadvantaged Business Development with the State of Florida. In 2000, she moved to Albany, Georgia where she continued her profession serving in the same position for the joint collaboration by the City of Albany, Georgia and Dougherty County, Georgia. Her leadership skills with MBE/WBE and DBE, led her to serve as a part of President Barack Obama's Minority and Small Business Summit for Business Growth and Development Across America. She ultimately retired as a Career Service Specialist and Grants Administrator at Albany State University. Her retirement years found her working with Stacy Abrams and others to empower Black and other disenfranchised Voters in Georgia.
Faith, Family ,Education and Service were all important components in her life. She came from a family of 10 siblings, was the mother of 3 children, and was elated to be the grandmother of 6 grands. Very important to her was the college education of her college age grandsons. With the successful graduation of her oldest grandson, Brandon, she wanted to ensure her second oldest grandson, Christopher "Dillion" Hannah, would have every opportunity to be as successful. To this end, she drove him from Florida to Kansas last Summer (2020) and assisted him with his college enrollment as a student-athlete at Barclay College, located in Haviland, Kansas. To ensure he had what he needed to be successful she helped to undergird his college expenses, this Fund will help to fill the void left by her absence as a result of her untimely passing from COVID-19, (January 2021). Her dream was to see "Dillion" finish college. Supporting this page will help to make that dream a reality.
