Remembering Emily and Supporting the O'Malley Family

On Christmas Eve, the O’Malley family suffered an unimaginable loss. While in Mont-Tremblant, Canada, to spend the holidays, an accident tragically took our beloved Emily from us. Emily and John’s 16-year-old son, Gavin, was also critically injured in the accident and was airlifted to a trauma hospital in Montreal, where he spent 8-days in the ICU. Thankfully, Gavin was able to be transferred to a hospital in Morristown and he is expected to make a full recovery, although the road to recovery will be long.

The sudden loss of Emily has left an irreplaceable hole in the lives of her husband John, her children Gavin and Erica (13), her brother Bryant, her parents Sue and Ken, and the hearts of everyone who knew her.

Gavin and Erica were the center of Emily’s world. She was deeply involved in every part of their lives—from their education to sports, where she served as a track coach and enthusiastic supporter. Emily loved to share new experiences with her family, including travel abroad, Foo Fighters and Taylor Swift concerts, sporting events and visits to see family around the country. Emily’s partner in creating this life of love and adventure was her devoted husband John, with whom she has been together since college. Anyone fortunate enough to have known Emily would recall her as a kind, gentle, thoughtful soul who always saw the best in people. She was generous with her time and energy, always willing to lend a helping hand to friends, neighbors, and our community. 

Gavin, a bright and athletic high school sophomore, suffered multiple injuries, including significant damage to his liver, which required a prolonged stay in the ICU. Despite his injuries and the emotional trauma of losing his mother, Gavin has shown remarkable maturity and resilience during this difficult time. With the care of his doctors, nurses and the support of loved ones and friends, we are confident he can not only fully recover but also return to the activities and sports he loves. His younger sister Erica has also shown extraordinary courage and strength, and has been a rock for John and our family.
