Remembering Emmett
On December 4th, 2021, so many lives changed forever when sweet Emmett Rae Fickel passed away. His parents, Alyssa and Justin Fickel, were right there with him while he took his last breath.
Emmett's memorial service will be held this Saturday, December 11th at Mueller Funeral Home, 904 E Main St, Winneconne, WI 54986. Visitation is from 9 am-11 am with a service following at 11 am.
Any donations, flowers, support and prayers are greatly appreciated. All proceeds will be going directly to The Fickel's to help cover funeral expenses and any other costs this family may incur during this tragic time.
They will also be using the funds to plant trees as a memorial for Emmett.
A message from Justin and Alyssa:
Emmett is the sweetest baby and us many lessons. We are so grateful that we were able to spend as much time with him as we did and be his parents. We loved him SO much and miss him so much already. Thank you all so much for all the positive support you gave us on this journey. We are forever grateful for it.
UPDATE: Saturday, October 16th, 2021
A quick update on Emmett!
He's 5 months old now
He is only on oxygen at night
He likes to move his tongue around when he tries flavors for taste but still can't take food by mouth.
He can roll from his belly to his back if he wants to.
He graduated from hospice and is now on palliative care (YAY!!!)
He continues to overcome obstacles and spread love and joy to everyone around him.
Thank you so much for everyone that reached out, prayed, donated or helped in any way. It means more than you will ever know!
On Wednesday, May 12th of 2021 at 6:47 am, Emmett Rae Fickel was born to mom, Alyssa and dad, Justin.
However, Emmett's arrival didn't go as planned. When he was born, he wasn't breathing. Thankfully, the nurses and doctors were able to resuscitate him.
Since, he has suffered multiple seizures, a swollen brain, blood transfusions, a four hour procedure to place a picc line to help him receive the nutrients he needs, and multiple tests.
He is currently being treated with oxygen, morphine and a medicine that helps with seizures.
Alyssa and Justin were told multiple times "He may not make it." The words no parents ever want to hear.
While Emmett has shown signs of improvement, there are still several tests to be done while Emmett is being cared for in the NICU.
They are currently awaiting authorization for insurance to send him to a larger hospital that offers more specialized care.
We know this is going to be a long, hard and scary journey for this young family. But if anything is certain, we know Baby Fickel is a fighter.
He is so loved already, and has shown us multiple times how strong he really is.
Right now, all Emmett knows is his mommy and daddy's voice and smell, and the hospital room.
Mom and dad are now back at home, they have a 40 minute drive to the hospital to visit their sweet baby.
Emmett's parent's will do absolutely EVERYTHING for him, as they never in a million years imagined themselves in this position. They need to be there for him every single day with the ultimate goal of bringing him home, safe and healthy.
With gas prices and medical bills rising, please help make this as easy as possible.
Thank you so much for all the love, prayers and support, please keep them coming. This family needs it!
