Remembering Jackson Mugerwa

Hi, I’m Zilla, a friend of Jackson who sadly passed away suddenly in January 2025. Jackson was a valued member of the defence bar, remembered for his laugh, his crazy stories, his generosity, and his love of a good meal and a Scotch. Jackson represented some of the most marginalized people in our city, as he himself was dealing with health and personal challenges. He will be greatly missed around the courthouse.

His family would like to lay him to rest along with his community, but they require help to cover the costs of a funeral and a reception at which we can toast his memory. Funds raised will be paid directly to funeral service providers. No funeral date is set yet as the autopsy is not complete, but the intention is to hold it outside of regular business hours so that as many lawyers and court staff can attend as possible. I am in contact with family and will work with them to keep things as affordable as possible and to update you as more information becomes available. Please feel free to share as widely as possible. And look out for each other - it’s tough out there.
