Remembering Jerry L Bird

Glioblastoma is a primary brain tumor that claims approximately 16,000 lives per year. This disease knows no cure. The patient's only hope for a longer life is through surgery and aggressive radiation and chemotherapy treatments to keep the tumor from claiming the patient's life so quickly.
On Jan. 16, 2020, Jerry Bird and his family received life-shattering news after an MRI revealed that he had a 5cm primary brain tumor on the right temporal lobe. The tumor affected his eyesight and ability to control the movements on the left side of his body. Jerry and his family knew he only had a few weeks left if immediate action wasn't taken.
After his Glioblastoma diagnosis, Jerry decided he would fight for his life, even if it meant only gaining a few months. He wanted to show his children and grandchildren what it means to have courage, hope, and peace in the face of adversity. He was a fighter. Through treatments, Jerry was able to gain five beautiful, love-filled months with his loving wife and family.
Three weeks ago, it became apparent that his body couldn't handle the continuous chemo treatments. His body failed him - his abilities and his health were severely affected despite treatment. Although the radiation shrunk the tumor, it's aggressive behavior tore through his brain like a tornado, wreaking havoc on his body. He was not afraid of the unknown but kept his eye on the bigger picture of perfect healing through his savior Jesus Christ.
Jerry won his battle with cancer on June 8, 2020. Although his body resigned to the disease, he now lives forever in freedom - free from pain, free from suffering. His spirit soars through us, endlessly through the love of God. As you know, the medical expenses for cancer treatments are costly. In lieu of flowers, we are asking for donations to help Jerry's wife, Karen Bird, cover the cost of his fight for life.
Thank you to everyone for your prayers, love, and support throughout this journey. We are honored to share it with all of you.
In Love, the Jerry Bird Family.
