Remembering Mary Schaffer

On Saturday August 8th, 2020. Mary Schaffer’s life was tragically cut short. Mary arrived in Spokane, Washington to pick up her kids from her abusive ex-husband. Mary picked up a rental car and headed to meet her ex. Mary was nervous because her previous custody exchanges did not go well and she had a very real fear for her life but needed to pick up her kids. Fearing for her safety she chose to meet her ex-husband at a public setting in Browne’s Addition, outside of the ex-husband’s apartment. The last text family and friends received from Mary was just before noon saying she had arrived. From then on, the family heard nothing further from Mary and began calling the police fearing the worst. The family’s suspicions were confirmed when the news reported a deceased woman near an apartment complex. Thankfully Mary’s children were found safe however, Mary was found deceased in her rental car. Mary’s family is completely heartbroken. Mary was an amazing, kind and loving soul. Mary enjoyed painting, spending time with her kids and her partner, Justin. Mary loved being a caregiver and helping to care for others. Mary found a safe and secure relationship with Justin and got to understand what true love and real happiness is. 5 years ago, Mary was diagnosed with a rare brain tumor that physicians did not think she would overcome. Mary battled her sickness with her children and her new love Justin by her side. Mary beat every battle thrown her way and became tumor to cancer free. Please consider donating to help with after death costs for Mary and for the future care of her children. The children will need help with adjusting to their new circumstances and getting set up with their new living arrangements. The family also wants to be sure the children can receive counseling to help with this trauma and grief. A gift registry has also been created and we will be adding items soon for things the kids may need. Children of Mary Schaffer Gift Registry
Mary's brother will be taking custody of the children, and the funds will be used to assist them in their relocation, as well as getting them set up in their new home. Any left over amounts will go to their grief counseling and therapy needs.
