Remembering Matt- Father, Brother, and Friend
Donation protected
At 8:57 on June 30th, 2020, my father Matthew Mason suddenly lost his fight against his longstanding illnesses and passed away, just one day short of his 47th birthday.
Anybody who met my dad, Matt, would tell you what a wonderful person he was. He was charismatic, kind, and always willing to lend a hand when you needed one. With his sharp wit and positive outlook, he always knew how to make someone smile, even when things seemed tough.
As his daughter and caretaker, I had the privilege of being able to care for him during his final days. He would talk fondly of his family and friends, how much he missed them and hoped to make plans as soon as the state of our world settled so he could safely do so. He kept busy with his love for science fiction, collecting games and figurines, and good movies. Some of my fondest memories with my dad were in our shared creative interests, and we'd have long talks about our plans and ideas we hoped to accomplish someday.
Dad was a fighter. After dodging so many bullets, from pancreatitis to osteomyelitis (a bone infection) to 7 confirmed cardiac arrests, he pushed and fought for a better life for himself, overcoming so many obstacles that faced him, taking each new diagnosis or treatment with the strongest sense of resilience I've ever seen.
Any funds we receive will go directly towards costs of the funeral, burial, and memorial services. Any remaining funds will be kept to assist with any medical bills or other necessary payments following his passing. We know that times are so hard right now, but any little bit is a huge help to honoring and remembering him.
He leaves behind his 4 children- Martin, Whitney (myself), Christopher, and Jared, as well as his brother, Mike, his sister, Michele, his best friends and roommates, Sam and Lynne, and his beloved service dog, Phoebe.
Dad, we love you so much. I know you'll be with us every step of the way, and that you're in a place now that's free of pain.
