Mike Buckley…How can I possibly sum up what a great person he was in a few paragraphs? He touched so many lives in his abbreviated time with us. Mike was someone that you could talk to no matter what was happening. A lot of times, you didn’t even have to say a word. He had an uncanny ability to know what was going on just by looking at someone. He was always readily available to lend a helping hand without expectation. Mike gave countless rides, bought innumerable cups of coffee, and even would buy food if someone was struggling.
None of those things were as treasurable as meeting him at the Mocha for a cup of coffee and a conversation peppered with a lot of colorful language, humor, and stories of Leslie Park. One of his favorite topics was his family. He loved his children so much. If one of them called, he would beam while talking to them. He would talk at great lengths about his grandchildren’s achievements. He looked forward to going to their games and recitals. I would see him on many Saturday Mornings drinking coffee at the Mocha getting ready to go to his grandson’s football game. He was so proud of all of them all.
Unfortunately, on January 10th Mike’s time with us was cut short by cancer. He put up a great fight but some fights you just can’t win. God must’ve wanted someone to have a cup of coffee with. His departure leaves a lot of emptiness amongst friends and family, who he would’ve done anything for. It’s now our time to do something for him. Mike did not want anything big for his final arrangements, but there a lot of people who have to say goodbye. Please donate what you can to help the family cover final expenses so we all get to say farewell to such a great person who touched so many lives.
