Remembering Plumeria & Trust Fund for Her Baby
Passing of Plumeria Letutusa Emalina Hahn
Dear Community,
You may know Plumeria Hahn from her very active participation in her church, as an avid singer, and a youth leader. She was a daughter of the Sāmoan community and very much loved her rich, multicultural heritage and her people.
Unfortunately, after a short and very intense battle with cancer, Plumeria passed away on September 19th, 2020, just five days shy of her 22nd birthday. She walks with her ancestors now and patiently awaits our reunion.
We remember her as an active, ambitious, positive, spiritual prayer warrior for her family. Her heart was wide open and dedicated to trying to make everyone's lives better and brighter. She leaves behind a grieving husband, daughter, mother, siblings, and extended family.
As her uncle, I have started a funeral fundraiser to help cover the cost of her funeral expenses. Her death came as an utter shock to our family as her doctors had given her two to three months and started the process of transitioning her into hospice care to improve the quality of her life in her final moments. We were not prepared for the high cost of a funeral, and during this difficult time we are reaching out to the community for help. Each and every donation is so important in the coming days and greatly valued.
Please consider donating if you can, as any amount will truly help. We need to raise approximately $12,000 by October 10th, 2020 in order to cover the cost of Plumeria’s services which include (but are not limited to) the following:
* funeral service ($1850)
* embalming ($725)
* preparations ($215)
* hairdressing ($85)
* chapel rental ($1025)
* casket ($1000)
* cemetery plot ($3000)
* headstone ($1200)
If we are unable to meet the goals, costs will place a significant financial burden on her widowed husband, and 10-months old daughter, Soojin. If we exceed our goal, any surplus funds will be set aside for a Trust Fund for her baby girl to access upon attaining 18 years of age.
It would mean a lot if you could share Plumeria’s funeral fundraiser with others who knew her.
She counted among her diverse ancestry the families of Fānene, Siolo, Hahn, Akau, Athwal, Muasau, Tiumalu, Young, Kuamoo, Namauu, Mookini, Wedemeyer, Snider, Bondanza, Colocho, Kuechmann, Kahiamoe, Leui, Tivao, Tuiofualii, Tuiolosega, Tuimalaeimi, Tuitele, Lasela, Kaianui, Kahalekaa, Haumea, and Lochlynn-Kemp.
Thank you so much for your consideration,
Joshua Fānene
Update as of Friday, October 2nd, 2020:
I humbly give thanks to every single person who has donated to this GoFundMe for memorial services for my niece. When the doctors told us she had "two to three months", there seemed to be enough time to make final arrangements. In spite of the abbreviation of our planning, we have so far managed to raise $3,390 through GoFundMe, which brings us a little more than 25% of the way towards our target of $12,000. Family members have also received a few cash donations in person, which have pushed us towards 50% of our overall goal after only 1 week since our first announcement. I have since set up a Benevolent Account through Boeing Employees' Credit Union, where Plumeria banked, in order to consolidate funds and draft checks to pay the several providers who will provide the various services associated with the funeral and preparation of Plumeria's remains.
At this time, I humbly ask once more if folks who may not have donated yet might consider "sharing" / "liking" this somber post through social media, or even donating just a small amount. I know this is a difficult time for many, what with COVID-19, wildfires, and other uncertainties looming over everyone's heads, but if you could spare even $5, Plumeria's family whom she leaves behind--her husband and 10-months old daughter--all of us would be ever so grateful.
If you are in the Puget Sound area and are considering making a donation directly rather than through GoFundMe, please, take your gift in person to Boeing Employees' Credit Union (BECU), and deposit it into the Benevolent Account setup payable to: “Plumeria Hahn, Benevolent Account”.
If you are NOT in the Puget Sound area, or prefer to send your donation electronically through your bank, please, private message me for further details, email ([email redacted]), or phone me (925-822-5130), otherwise, the GoFundMe works just as well.
Thank you all again so much for your kind consideration.
With utmost sincerity, and humbleness.
-J.F.
