Randy Kessler, beloved husband, father, and friend to all, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on October 22nd. He leaves behind his wife Arianne and two daughters Arabella and Carmelina. Randy was in the midst of building a new home for his family and planning for college for his girls. At this point, with no steady income for the family, they need our help.
Everyone at Scholastic who knew Randy felt a special connection to him--including each last person he met in the office--he was friends with every assistant, every manager, anyone who crossed his path--all the way up to Scholastic President & CEO, Dick Robinson. Randy loved working for Scholastic. In his 16 years, he exemplified the Scholastic mission of getting books into every child's hand. He spoke with reverence of the red bar logo that appears on all Scholastic books and was relentlessly competitive about getting those books placed in his accounts. He was tirelessly attentive to his friends and colleagues, but especially the children in their lives--Randy was always sending someone books for their kids. Now it is important that we make sure his family is taken care of.
Randy made us all family and extended that connection to his friends across the industry--particularly at Readerlink, the Readerlink accounts, and Target. He had a story about every person in those offices and meetings--he was so interested and invested in everyone he worked with. We often joked that Randy's second office was not in the Scholastic building but in the halls of Readerlink in Oak Brook where he loved to be. Randy's infectious smile and generous spirit inspired all who spent time with him and his competitive nature made us all better.
We deeply mourn the loss of such a great man, friend, and role model. Arianne lost her husband and best friend of 20 years and Arabella and Carmelina lost their beloved dad. Let's repay the love and energy we felt from Randy and support his family in this terrible time.
