Remembering Storm Dunlop: for Stars, Weather, and Greyhounds

Richard Storm Dunlop, (to give you his full name), the renowned astronomer and meteorologist, passed away peacefully on Thursday 23rd January 2025, at St Richard’s Hospital, Chichester. Known for his passion for the skies and his ability to make the complexities of weather and astronomy accessible to all, he leaves behind a professional legacy that will inspire future generations.

Storm had many friends and acquaintances, across the globe, throughout the UK, and in the village of East Wittering, where he lived. He was not least known for his love of owning and walking rescued greyhounds adopted from the Ceilia Cross Greyhound Trust, Sun Valley Farm Kennels, Shere Road, West Clandon, Surrey, GU4 8SH - and he has made many friends through this passion.

The Ceilia Cross Greyhound Trust rescue, rehabilitate and rehome around 200 dogs each year, many of which are abandoned, sick or ill-treated. They were established as a registered charity in 1993. They are a small, independent, and rely entirely on the fundraising activities of their supporters.

If you would like to honour Storm's memory with a donation, we would kindly ask that you please leave something for the Ceilia Cross Greyhound Trust. Throughout 2024, the Trust provided wonderful support for both Vinny and Roxy, Storm's two greyhounds. Thank you.

A Message from Janice Cowan, Storm's Cousin:

Storm’s wishes for a woodland burial reflect his deep connection to nature, a theme woven throughout his life’s work. His informal funeral will be held at 1pm on Friday 28th February 2025, at the Sustainability Centre Natural Burial Ground, Droxford Rd, Petersfield GU32 1HR. Attendees are encouraged to wear warm clothing, sturdy shoes, and lap blankets are recommended, as the service will be held in the woods. Transport from the car park to the graveside, for anyone unsteady on their feet, will be available. In this way, we will be honouring Storm’s request for a peaceful natural final resting place in harmony with the nature and environment he cherished so dearly.
