In Loving Memory of Shanthi Sam Kuruvilla

With no known cause or cure, ALS challenges the human spirit of everyone touched by this devastating disease. However, we can work together in creating hope for a world without ALS.

The ALS Association provide compassionate care to individuals and families impacted by ALS.

The Greater New York Chapter has specifically impacted Shanthi's life in a profound way, lending much-needed equipment to adjust to the physical changes she experienced with this debilitating disease, providing a support team that checked in with her monthly to help address any gaps in care, and offering a community of similar patients with shared experiences who met monthly over video conference.

Shanthi's wish was to stay in her home, with her loving family, as her disease progressed. This wish came to fruition directly because of the support and generosity of the ALS Association.

As one of The ALS Association's leading chapters, the Greater New York Chapter plays a major role in promoting the mission of The ALS Association by:

1. Providing quality services to patients and families living with ALS throughout the greater New York area.

2. Funding aggressive, cutting-edge research to find a cure that utilizes the newest techniques and fosters collaborative initiatives among government agencies, the private sector and scientists.

3. Supporting The ALS Association's national advocacy program to expand government support of research and elicit programs to make treatments and care accessible and affordable for all ALS patients.

4. Heightening awareness of ALS in order to stimulate volunteerism, scientific and healthcare community activism, and public support that is essential to the fight against ALS.
