Remembering TURTLE

Donation protected
Anyone who knew TURTLE knows he radiated positivity. Along with his infectious laugh, his can-do attitude and willingness to always help were some of his well-known traits. He would hear a need and simply state, “LET’S MAKE IT HAPPEN!”

Since moving to Colorado and integrating with the Colorado Springs cycling community, Turtle and Gwenn befriended many wonderful and talented cyclists. Among them, a blind track tandem cyclist, Stephanie Zundel. As a Paralympic hopeful, Stephanie depends upon equipment and training which is on-par with her world-class competition.

In typical TURTLE fashion, he saw a need and immediately wanted to help. It was his desire to support this dedicated athlete to reach her goal of competing in the Paralympics. Sadly, before TURTLE had an opportunity to jump fully into action, he tragically lost his life. We can’t think of a better way to honor TURTLE’S memory than to “make this happen.”  TURTLE was a doer – and there’s no doubt he would have met this goal. Whether you are a cyclist or not, we ask that you consider helping make TURTLE’S goal a reality. In TURTLE’S words, “LET’S GET ON IT!”

This fundraising effort is to purchase a custom tandem track cycling bike and use of appropriate training facilities. The funds for track bike and training will be facilitated by Brian Abers, world renowned track cycling coach. He will help ensure that the athletes get the appropriate equipment and training opportunity to be successful.

A charitable foundation in TURTLE’S name is in process of being set up and we will share updates on that as it progresses. Any funds which exceed the goal for this initiative will go into a general foundation account. We will keep TURTLE’S legacy of energy and enthusiasm alive with future events and goals.
