From the Emerson Family:

I never thought we would be writing this as we could not imagine anything tragic happening to one of our children. Every thing about Remi Emerson was and is perfect, from her head full of hair, her curls, to her tiny little nose and her little toes. Everyone who knows us, knows that our girls are constantly doted over and showered with love. Remi’s contagious smile and her personality which was just starting to shine, has abruptly stopped because of an unimaginable accident in the care of a babysitter.

On September 26, 2022, we dropped off beautiful perfect Remi at the babysitter's, when approximately 2:30 pm, we learned that Remi had somehow crawled out of the house, through a glass door and upstairs to a pool fence that had the gate open. She was found in the pool unresponsive and was without air for a significant amount of time. After 31 minutes Remi was brought back to life and was airlifted to Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center in Richmond, VA.

Immediately Remi was put into a medical induced coma to allow her body to heal and to prevent any further brain swelling. We did not know what was in store for us at that time. The horrible tragic day dealt a blow no one could ever imagine. On this day, a tragic and preventable accident occurred where beautiful sweet Remi will have to fight to survive and if she does, will have hardships she will endure with severe disabilities. Everyday she is fighting and we have small victories where Remi shows us she wants to live, but her fight is just starting. Her fight for her organs to work, to be able to work without medical assistance and have some sort of normalcy is shown everyday. After one week, she has still not out of critical condition where we are in the 50/50 if Remi will make it.

This tragic preventable accident will forever change Remi’s life as she will endure a lifetime of hardships, but has changed our personal lives, her sister Mia’s life, as well as the grandparents, aunts, uncles, and many cousins who all love her very much.

From Jeff Darvell:

Friends and family, we call on you to provide your prayers and miracles for Remi to make a full recovery. The Emerson family has been shown a great deal of love from friends and family from all over and it has not gone unnoticed. Your love and willingness to help them has not only made them maneuver through this, but has given them hope. They honestly could not have made it each day without your calls, texts, emails, and visits. Keep these coming!

If you would like to support the Emerson family, please consider donating to help with the medical expenses. All funds donated will be used for Remi and her medical expenses incurred in the hospital and as we hope to bring her home, which will include at-home care. None of our lives will ever be the same again and no amount of money will change that, but this will help take care just a small portion of the expenses that is not covered by insurance.

Please continue reaching out and know that the Emerson family is seeing it and thinks of you often. The overwhelming tasks at hand have left them numb. Continue reaching out and do not take offense if they do not respond quickly.
