Renata during her cancer treatment

Hi! My name is Renata Wadsworth. On November 16th I will have a bilateral mastectomy. There was much to consider when making this decision. Ultimately, this is the safest option especially given recent biopsy results. There are ‘markedly atypical’ cells present in the area of a palpable lump in my right breast. This is considered ‘pre-cancerous’ and given the known Ductal carcinoma in situ and microinvasive Ductal carcinoma in another area of my breast, it is recommended this suspicious nodule be excized.
I really like my breast surgeon. She’s patient in explaining things and seems to genuinely appreciate all of my nerdy questions. (She said she loves nerdy questions!) I did a fair bit of research on other surgeons/surgical options and have concluded that I’m super lucky to have a phenomenal surgical oncologist/breast specialist right here in town.
Treatment post mastectomy will depend entirely on the final pathology of all of my breast tissue. So next steps TBD.
